Traders In Purple has lodged a DA for 75 luxury apartments overlooking Pymble Golf Course, on Sydney’s upper north shore, following settlement of the St Ives site.

The apartments are designed to meet the needs of local downsizers and families seeking a low-maintenance lifestyle without compromising space or comfort. A range of 2, 3 and rarely offered 4 bedroom apartments is proposed across two six-storey buildings in landscaped grounds reminiscent of the lush gardens that characterise the upper north shore.

Emphasis has been placed upon creating large apartments that enhance the lifestyle of those moving from a large family home. Balconies and courtyards have been tested to ensure they accommodate a large outdoor table and a barbecue where family and friends can be entertained while enjoying views of the golf course or Cowan Oval opposite.

Designed by Plus Architecture, care has been taken to marry the architectural style with the local character of St Ives with a focus on landscaping that adds to the tree canopy and is in keeping with the neighbourhood.

A sandstone fence and pathways that meander through gardens enhance the streetscape and create an impressive sense of arrival at the Cowan Road entry, where a glass pavilion opens up to expansive golf course views.

Traders In Purple CEO Brett Robinson said customer feedback had emphasised that downsizers placed a high value on generous private living space when transitioning from the family home.

“Family is of primary importance in this locality and having an apartment large enough to continue traditions such as hosting Christmas Day with all the children and grandchildren around, was of utmost importance,” said Mr Robinson.“That sentiment is reflected in the generous size of apartments that offer ample storage, and balconies and courtyards that allow people to downsize without diminishing their lives.”

Apartments typically feature large kitchens with walk-in pantries. The vast majority are three bedroom, many with an additional multi-purpose room. Four bedroom apartments are especially attractive for families choosing a comfortable lifestyle free from the burden of tending a large house and garden.

Mr Robinson said Traders In Purple would continue to consult with local community groups to ensure the project aligned with the broader vision for the neighbourhood.

Plus Architecture Director Rido Pin said the intent of the proposal was to create a high quality boutique residential development that feels genuinely connected to the character of St Ives.

“The project responds sensitively to the site’s natural topography and takes advantage of the aspect towards the Cowan Street Oval and expansive views over the golf course to the west,” said Mr Pin.

“Our aim is to create a balanced urban fit while proposing careful sculpting and detailing combined with rich materiality and textures to respond to the Cowan Road and Pymble Golf Course context.

“The proposal demonstrates how thoughtful design can strengthen community fabric and achieve increased residential density without compromising human scale or neighbourhood character.”

All apartments will achieve Silver Liveability standard with 10 per cent designed to Platinum standard making them suitable for ageing in place, with wider hallways, doors and showers.

The development, on Cowan Road, is an easy walk from St Ives Shopping Village and leafy Cowan Oval opposite is a great place to walk the dog. St Ives Village Green playground is a popular destination for families offering adventure play for youngsters and a skate park.
