A prime site located in the heart of Wollongong is set to be revitalised, following DA approval for a new 54-apartment development situated just a short stroll from its famous sandy beaches.

The new 12-storey building will be set above a commercial space with multiple outdoor entertainment areas, including a rooftop garden and communal barbecue areas.

The almost 2,000sqm site at 15-19 Crown Street is being developed by Traders In Purple. Positioned within easy access of the ‘Blue Mile’ foreshore walk, it is close to an array of restaurants and cafes. It is just 50 metres from WIN Entertainment Precinct and is within walking distance to Wollongong’s iconic Continental Pool.

Thomas Zdun, Development Director New South Wales of Traders In Purple, said the development is long overdue for this prime pocket of Wollongong. The new building will offer magnificent outlooks in all directions.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to enable this site to be transformed for a new chapter, and deliver a new and special community,” he said.

“We’ve put a lot of consideration into the planning so that the apartments could take advantage of Wollongong’s diverse surroundings – from the Pacific Ocean back around to the dramatic escarpment of Mt Keira. There is also particular emphasis on building longevity and careful material selection given its coastal context.”

Inspired by the Illawarra’s beautiful landscape, the building has been designed by Jackson Teece Architects who worked closely with local Wollongong firm ADM Architects on the exciting project.

A ‘playful’ exterior façade distinguishes it from the ‘sameness’ of many new developments and is expected to create an iconic presence in Wollongong.”

“We have aimed to provide continuity in quality throughout the project. This starts from the street frontage and carries through into the foyer and common spaces and finally into the apartment interiors themselves,” said John Gow, Director of Jackson Teece Architects.

The residential component will comprise predominantly two and three-bedroom apartments, capturing a northern aspect and expansive views.

The project is anticipated to be launched to the market in the coming months through Belle Property Illawarra.
